Barrick, Switzer, Long, Balsley and Van Evera, LLP. is a mid-size law firm currently seeking multiple full-time attorneys for Bankruptcy Law, Commercial Litigation, Municipal Law and Marital/Family Law. Professionals will handle all aspects of the litigation process including status calls, prove-ups, trials, arbitrations, written discovery, depositions, motion practice as well as post-judgment hearings including garnishment and citations. Responsibilities:
- Independently manage a caseload
- Ability to manage full case handling responsibilities, including all facets of discovery and trial
- Drafting pleadings, motions, interrogatories and other legal documents
- Work closely with other attorneys, team members, and Partners on legal projects
- Regularly handle court appearances and depositions
- Communicate with clients and provide status reports
- Represent clients in court or before government agencies
- Prepare and draft legal documents on behalf of clients
- Negotiate settlements for legal disputes
- Comply with all legal standards and regulations
Requirements:
- Licensed attorney with 0-5 years of experience

Paralegal
Job Description:
A successful Winnebago County law firm is seeking a detailed and self-motivated Paralegal to add to their team. This is a great opportunity for an experienced individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and who can hit the ground running. Able to work independently, efficiently, and adapt well to sudden re-prioritization of assignments and regular work flow interruptions. Must be responsible and confident speaking with attorneys, clients, and court personnel.
Responsibilities:
- Ability to communicate and interact well with clients and other attorneys
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Managing client information and organizing client files from open to close
- Assist in preparing and maintaining Legal Documents
- Docketing, scheduling and monitoring dates
- Drafting and proofreading contracts, pleadings and correspondence
- Organizing and reviewing discovery with supervising attorneys
- E-filing in Winnebago, Boone, McHenry and Stephenson Counties
- Researching legal issues
Requirements:
- Must be tech-savvy, proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and able to quickly learn new software applications
- Must be highly motivated with the ability to work independently within deadlines
- Possess strong work ethic with attention to accuracy and detail
- Must know how to prioritize a workload, adapt to changing priorities and stay motivated
- Must possess strong written and oral communication skills and be a superb proofreader
- Must have earned a paralegal certificate/degree or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience and ability
